You'll need to do some creative bending on the arm, or cut off the arm on your old motor and secure it to the new motor. The reproduction motor is a universal replacement. How difficult would it be to accurately bend a new one to fit and operate correctly? If i'm going to do this, should i look for new? Thanks. The new ones come with a straight arm whereas the old one has an arm that curves and bends and has a dog ear. Would you know the part number for replacement? Eklers looks different. I will order a replacement Thanks for your help Jim. Fortunately that's a relatively easy motor to replace with the right lower dash removed, and they're available new from the parts vendors. They are, after all, nearly 60 years old. I've seen this happen a few times to a vacuum motor, often just before it fails completely. The vacuum motor that actuates the door may have a pinhole leak which would explain all the symptoms you describe. Does any of the linkage in these actuators require lubrication? Stumped a little here but i will keep on reading. The door behind the chrome grill that allows the cool A/C air to enter the cabin only opens 1/3 of the way in A/C mode. I read the shop manual section on the A/C operation a few times and along with the diagrams in the electrical manual felt confident that i routed the hoses as per the diagram. I am not sure if the actuator that operates the door behind the A/C grill needs adjustment or it has issues and must be replaced or if i messed up the routing of all those hoses in the dash. The A/C seems to be working fine otherwise although could be a little colder. The door does not seem to to binding up anywhere against the hoses or anything. It does close fully when the car is shut off. I cleaned up the tools and went to test drive it and the door started to open and close repeatedly and finally stoped with the door partially opened. I tested it in the driveway and the vacuum operated door opened and the cool air flowed through. I meticulously checked each hose from the diagrams on page 56 and 57 of the electrical manual. I could not believe that a few hoses i replaced approximately 5 years ago had split. That was a crazy troubleshooting session.
